Traveling with ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group airlines
With ITA Airways as a new member of the Lufthansa Group, the range of flights available is being significantly expanded. Thanks to codesharing, travelers will benefit from greater flexibility in planning and implementing their trips, as well as from coordinated flight schedules between hubs with optimized travel times.
The Lufthansa Group also gains a sixth hub in the five-star Rome Fiumicino airport.
The full integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group is happening in phases. It also includes other key measures, such as the planned inclusion of ITA Airways in the Star Alliance.
More connections, more options: ITA Airways codeshare flights
Together with ITA Airways, Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Air Dolomiti are expanding their route network. As a result, travelers will benefit from an even greater choice of flights and enjoy more flexibility. ITA Airways brings a unique route network in Italy to the partnership. After the full implementation of all codeshares, ITA Airways passengers will have access to more than 250 new worldwide destinations with optimized connections via the Lufthansa Group hubs.
The first ITA Airways flights within Europe can already be booked under a Lufthansa Group marketing flight number. In addition, selected Lufthansa Group flights are also available under an ITA Airways marketing flight number.

More for everyone: Miles & More and Volare
Frequent flyers can now benefit from increased opportunities. Miles & More members are able to earn and redeem both miles and points for their frequent flyer status on ITA Airways flights. Volare members can also earn and redeem their points with Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, and SWISS.
Lounges: more comfort for frequent flyers
The lounge offering of the Lufthansa Group and ITA Airways is gradually being harmonized. First and Business Class passengers as well as status customers will therefore have access to an extended lounge network. This includes 23 lounges belonging to ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group, 10 partner lounges and more than 100 third-party lounges. Reciprocal lounge access offers travelers significantly more comfort and choice at airports.
All under one roof: change of terminals
To ensure optimal connections, there will be some changes at the Lufthansa Group hubs from 30 March 2025. In Frankfurt, ITA Airways is moving to Terminal 1, which will significantly shorten passengers’ transfer times. In Munich, ITA Airways will move from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 in order to make travel even more pleasant in the future. At all other Lufthansa Group hubs, as well as at Rome-Fiumicino and Milan-Linate, ITA Airways already uses the same terminal areas as the Lufthansa Group airlines.
Well-coordinated: flight schedules at the different hubs
The Lufthansa Group and ITA Airways are optimizing their flight schedules between Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, and Brussels as well as Rome-Fiumicino and Milan-Linate. Thanks to better schedule timing throughout the day, travelers will enjoy greater flexibility. Coordinated departure times will ensure shorter waiting times and enable seamless connections to long-haul flights.
In good company: Star Alliance
ITA Airways has already initiated the process of leaving the SkyTeam global airline alliance. Passengers will still be able to take advantage of SkyTeam benefits until May 2025. The airline is aiming to join Star Alliance by the start of 2026.
