Lufthansa and Fraport test “Gate of the Future” in Frankfurt

(2 November 2026)

At Gate A16 in Terminal 1 at Frankfurt Airport, Lufthansa and Fraport are testing a new gate concept. Digital services, personalized assistance and redesigned waiting areas are intended to make departure and boarding easier while creating a more comfortable experience at the gate.

What’s new at Gate A16

  • Real-time information: Large displays provide departure times, boarding status, carry-on baggage information and the latest gate updates.
  • Digital services: QR codes provide direct access to self-service options and the Lufthansa app.
  • Mobile assistance: Staff equipped with tablets can assist passengers directly at the gate, for example with rebooking, seat reservations or upgrades.
  • Work and relax: Working Cubes, sofas and other new design elements create dedicated spaces for focused work and a more comfortable stay at the gate.

Testing the gates of tomorrow

Gate A16 serves as a test environment for future gate concepts at Frankfurt Airport. The trial will help determine which services and features could also be introduced at other gates in the future.
