New Light fare in Business Class and Premium Economy Class
More choice on long-haul routes: new Light fare in Business Class and Premium Economy Class
Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS and Discover Airlines are introducing new base fares on selected intercontinental routes: Business Light and Premium Economy Light. These fares are designed for travelers who value premium comfort on board but prefer to add optional services—such as seat reservations or additional baggage—flexibly as needed.
What do the Light Fares offer?
Business Light and Premium Economy Light are new fare options within the respective travel classes. Onboard comfort remains unchanged: the seat, meals and all inflight services continue to meet the usual premium standard.
The difference lies in the scope of services: a reduced free baggage allowance, advance seat reservation available for a fee, and more restrictive fare conditions. As these fares include only the most essential services, price conscious travelers benefit from more attractive base prices.
One checked bag included
The Light fares include one checked bag—up to 32 kg in Business Light and 23 kg in Premium Economy Light. Additional baggage can be booked for a fee.
HON Circle Members, Senators and Gold Star Members retain their usual status benefit of one extra checked bag.
Chargeable advance seat reservation – also in Business Class
Advance seat reservation is not included in the Light fares. This also applies to the Business Class Classic Seat, with ASR prices ranging from EUR 80 / CHF 92 / USD 94 to EUR 120 / CHF 138 / USD 141 depending on the route. In Premium Economy Class, seat reservation continues to be available from EUR 45 / CHF 52 / USD 53, as before.
Important: For HON Circle Members, Senators and Gold Star Members, advance seat reservation fees also apply when booking a Light Fare.
On which routes are the new fares available?
The Light fares will be introduced gradually on selected long-haul routes to and from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, the USA, Central America and South America.
Excluded are flights to and from Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia, as well as itineraries with a point of commencement (POC) in Brazil, Iran, Israel or Korea.
Availability and combinability
The Light fares are not available for group travel, MICE or corporate fares, and cannot be combined with other fares.
