2 For Basic Plus and Green Fares, the adjusted refund fee applies to all tickets issued on or after 10 June 2026.
Lufthansa Group adjusts refund fees – and largely restores familiar flexibility
(1 June 2026)
Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS, and Discover Airlines are adjusting their refund conditions on selected intercontinental routes. With the stabilization of operational conditions, most fares will once again offer the usual flexibility after it had been temporarily modified in Spring 2026 due to exceptional circumstances.
Overview of the changes:
Effective 3 June 2026 (date of ticket issuance):
- Economy, Premium Economy, and Business Class Flex fares: refundable free of charge
- First Class Flex fares: still refundable for a fee; the refund fee will be reduced
Effective 10 June 2026 (date of ticket issuance):
- Basic Plus and Green Fares in all travel classes: reduced refund fee
This adjustment applies to:
- Flights between Europe and Asia-Pacific1
- Flights between Europe and South Africa
- Flights between Europe and Mauritius and the Seychelles
- Flights from Asia-Pacific to Brazil
As a result, the temporary adjustments to refund fees introduced in Spring 2026 are largely being reversed on these routes; all other routes were not affected by any changes.
Note: Selected Corporate Fares (Corporate Net Rates) and specialty fares will be adjusted effective 10 June 2026 (date of ticket issuance).
1 Excluding flights between Europe and China, Europe and Japan, as well as flights between Belgium/Germany/Austria/Switzerland and Singapore/Malaysia/Australia.

Background: Temporary measure in an exceptional environment
In Spring 2026, against the backdrop of the current market environment and increasingly dynamic booking and cancellation behavior, the Lufthansa Group temporarily adjusted the refund conditions for flexible fares on selected long-haul routes3 – including the introduction of refund fees for fares that had previously been fully flexible.
These adjustments were a necessary response to the exceptional geopolitical situation. At the same time, the Lufthansa Group was reacting to a short-term shift and significant increase in demand – particularly on Asia routes. The aim was to ensure the most reliable possible utilization of available capacity.
3 Flights between Europe and Asia-Pacific (excluding flights between Europe and China, Europe and Japan, as well as flights between Belgium/Germany/Austria/Switzerland and Singapore/Malaysia/Australia), South Africa, Mauritius and the Seychelles, as well as flights from Asia-Pacific to Brazil.
Outlook
The Lufthansa Group continuously evolves its fare and flexibility offer, with the aim of consistently aligning them with changing customer needs and market requirements.
