The new “Servus” in the sky—the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner

(Update: August 2024)

The Dreamliner makes dreams come true. Whether in Business Class, Premium Economy or Econom Class, on board the Austrian Airlines Boeing 787-9 a new, improved travel experience awaits your customers—in all travel classes.

Business Class guests can enjoy generously sized seats that transform easily into lie-flat beds. As well as the greatest comfort, the seats provide direct access to the aisle and ample storage space. In addition, the seats’ raised side panels ensure a high degree of privacy.

The windows, which are among the largest in the entire airline industry, allow even passengers in the middle rows an uninterrupted view of the horizon. Thanks to electronic dimming, passengers can adjust the amount of light coming through the windows to suit their individual preferences, while still enjoying the breathtaking view above the clouds.

An innovative lighting system also awaits passengers on board. It adapts to the body’s clock, depending on the time of day or night, and therefore not only ensures additional well-being on board but has also been proven to help reduce jetlag.

Available for the first time on Austrian Airlines long-haul flights: FlyNet® Internet access with free messaging service in all travel classes.

Of course, Austrian hospitality and cuisine are not neglected either. For example, Do & Co Flying Chefs and the “Viennese coffee house service” provide culinary delights in Business Class. Premium Economy and Economy Class passengers have a choice of different menus.

The Dreamliner seats a total of 294 passengers: 26 in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy and 247 in Economy Class.

The Boeing 787-9 destinations

The first two Dreamliners delivered to Austrian Airlines have been deployed on the following US routes:

  • Vienna–New York (JFK)–Vienna: daily except Sundays
  • Vienna–Chicago (ORD)–Vienna: daily except Wednesdays

A further nine Boeing 787-9s will gradually replace Austrian Airlines’ existing long-haul jets by 2028.

Innovation and efficiency

At around 2.5 liters of fuel per passenger per 100 kms flown, the Dreamliner’s fuel consumption is up to 20% less than that of a Boeing 767. Its innovative technology, lower weight, good aerodynamics and state-of-the-art engines make the 787-9 significantly more fuel-efficient than its predecessor models, which means it emits less CO2.

Hello A380, hello Bangkok and Los Angeles!

        (Update: May 2023)

Lufthansa is launching new Airbus A380 destinations from Munich in the coming winter. Starting 26 October 2023, the world‘s largest passenger aircraft will be flying again daily to the Californian metropolis of Los Angeles (LAX).

A special premiere: For the first time, a Lufthansa Airbus A380 will take off from Munich to the Thai capital Bangkok (BKK), increasing the seat capacity by almost 75 percent compared to the A350. Lufthansa offers a greater premium product on this route than ever before: the A380 offers 8 seats in First Class, 78 seats in Business Class and 52 seats in Premium Economy.

With the Lufthansa A380 to Boston and New York

        (Update: April 2023)

Starting 1 June 2023, Lufthansa will resume regular flight operations with the popular Airbus A380 after a three-year interruption. The world's largest passenger aircraft will fly daily from Munich to Boston (BOS). Starting 4 July 2023, daily flights to New York (JFK) will be added to the A380 route network.

Glückliche Familie am See im Sommer hält die Füße ins Wasser

With the reactivation of the Airbus A380, Lufthansa is expanding the premium offering at its southern hub in Munich, especially with additional Business and First Class seats. With 509 seats, the A380 offers around 80 percent more capacity than the Airbus A340-600 – and thus significantly more sales opportunities for you.

Due to the significant increase in demand for airline tickets and the delayed delivery of ordered aircraft, Lufthansa had decided in 2022 to reactivate the Airbus A380, which is particularly popular with passengers and crews. By the end of 2023, a total of four A380 aircraft will again be deployed from Munich.

The A380 flights in summer 2023 at a glance:

        • Munich–Boston (BOS): daily, starting 1 June 2023
        • Munich–New York (JFK): daily, starting 4 July 2023
