Business Class: From a separate cabin to a personalized suite

It’s time for business—Business Class, to be precise. It’s hard to imagine a time without it. Let’s take a look at a few significant milestones in the evolution of Business Class, one of the most personalized travel classes offered by Lufthansa Group airlines.

The first dedicated cabin

One of the first-ever separate business classes was introduced by Lufthansa in 1979. At that time, Lufthansa recognized that business travelers needed more than just a seat and introduced a whole new travel class as a solution. Over the years, Business Class was adopted by several Lufthansa Group airlines, most recently by Discover Airlines in 2024.

The lie-flat revolution

The concept of Business Class was already in place when the early 2000s brought the next logical step—even more comfort. The first fully flat bed was introduced in Business Class across multiple airlines that are now part of the Lufthansa Group. This milestone transformed long-haul flights from mere transportation into spaces for relaxation and productivity.

The era of personalization

Fast forward 20 years and we arrive at the present with the next generation of Business Class: “Lufthansa Allegris” and “SWISS Senses.” This new generation of Business Class cabins offers multiple seating options that allow for unprecedented personalization. It is a direct response to the ever-evolving needs of travelers, taking business travel to a whole new level across multiple Lufthansa Group airlines. In 2027, Discover Airlines follows suit with the new “Ocean Blue” cabin concept.
