The Lufthansa Group's largest fleet modernization project

With the order for 40 Boeing 737-8 MAX and 40 Airbus A220-300 and the purchase option for 120 additional short and medium-haul aircraft, the Lufthansa Group is accelerating the largest fleet modernization in the company's history. The A220 is intended for use by the newly founded airline Lufthansa City Airlines and is set to be delivered as early as 2026.

Focus on the new aircraft:

Airbus A220-300 - the face of the new City Airlines. This latest-generation aircraft has 148 seats and consumes around 2.5 liters per 100 passenger kilometers. The Airbus A220-300s will go to the newly founded City Airlines, among others, and will be used for short-haul flights from Frankfurt and Munich.

Boeing 737-8 MAX - 4th generation classic. The Boeing 737-8 MAX is the further development of the world's most-built commercial aircraft. The aircraft has 190 seats in Business and Economy Class and, thanks to its efficient engines, only consumes around 2.2 liters per 100 passenger kilometers. The first aircraft is expected in the third quarter of 2027.

Airbus A320 family - the familiar size. The Lufthansa Group has secured a further 40 purchase options for aircraft  from the A320 family. The Lufthansa Group airlines currently operate around 450 aircraft of this model series on short and medium-haul routes. Over the next few years, 71 A320neo and A321neo aircraft that have already been ordered will be delivered.
