Next steps – ITA Airways in the Lufthansa Group

With ITA Airways as a new member of the Lufthansa Group, there will be a significant increase in the number of flights available to passengers. The codeshare agreement will create additional connections in the route network and offer travelers greater flexibility in planning and managing their flights.

The full integration of ITA Airways into the Lufthansa Group will take place in phases and also include other key measures such as the change of airline alliance by ITA Airways and the cooperation between the loyalty programs Miles & More and Volare. The Lufthansa Group will also gain a sixth hub with the five-star Rome Fiumicino airport.

Now bookable: ITA Airways codeshare flights

Together with ITA Airways, Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Air Dolomiti are expanding their route network. Travelers will benefit from an even greater choice of flights and enjoy more flexibility. ITA Airways brings a unique route network in Italy to the partnership; at the same time ITA Airways’ passengers will gain access to more than 250 new destinations worldwide with optimized connections via the Lufthansa Group hubs.

The first ITA Airways flights within Europe can now be booked under a Lufthansa Group marketing flight number – for travel starting 30 March 2025. In addition, selected Lufthansa Group flights are also available under an ITA Airways marketing flight number.

Volare members will now also be able to earn and redeem points with Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa und SWISS. And vice-versa, Miles & More members will be able to earn and redeem miles on all flights operated by ITA Airways.

Lounges: more comfort for frequent flyers

From summer 2025, the lounge networks of the Lufthansa Group and ITA Airways will gradually be harmonized. Eligible passengers will gradually gain access to an extended lounge network. This includes 23 lounges belonging to ITA Airways and the Lufthansa Group, 10 partner lounges and more than 100 third-party lounges. Reciprocal lounge access is available to qualifying passengers of all airlines, providing significantly more comfort and choice at airports.

For an optimal connection: terminal changes

In order to improve the connections between ITA Airways and Lufthansa Group airlines flights, some changes are planned at the Lufthansa Group's hubs, starting with the 2025 summer flight schedule. In Frankfurt, ITA Airways' move to Terminal 1 has already been confirmed. For Munich, a change from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 is also planned for this summer. There is no need for a change of terminals at the other Lufthansa Group hubs, as the existing structures are already optimized for seamless connections.

In good company: Star Alliance

ITA Airways has already initiated the process of leaving the SkyTeam global airline alliance. Passengers will still be able to take advantage of SkyTeam benefits until April 2025 and the airline aims to join Star Alliance by early 2026.
